May those that love us, love us. As for those who don't love us, may God turn their hearts, and if he can't turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we'll know them by their limp. ---Anonymous Irish Quote

Topic Proposal

Throughout my life, I have wanted to be many things when I "grew up.” My career goals ranged from being an FBI agent, a judge, a professional football quarterback (No joke) and many other things. However, ever since I hit high school, my passion for sports became even more relevant than before. I knew all throughout my four years of high school that I was not by any means a terrific athlete, and more than likely wouldn’t make it to a professional athletic level. One day I was watching a show called Sports Nation. You may or may not have heard of it, but they are similar to what you see broadcasted on ESPN and Sportscenter but they put a more fun and unorthodox spin to sports talk. One of the main anchors was a woman, and she was very good at what she did and was extremely knowledgeable. Ever since then, I have had the dream of becoming a prominent sports anchor. I’d be perfectly content with working for a local news station but my ultimate goal is to someday work for ESPN or Sportscenter and become a well respected anchor. I figured, I love sports and I have no problem talking or being on TV. Why not work with what I love.
However, I can’t help but wonder how hard it is for a woman to become a respected sports anchor. The sports world is most definitely dominated by men, and therefore a woman can seem like she wouldn’t be up to par to discuss sports as if it were second nature and the men (and women) who watch sports, and sports news shows may not take her seriously. These are some points that I hope to touch on in my essay.
Through this assignment I hope to learn the exact criteria and steps that need to be taken in order to achieve this career aspiration. In the end this assignment could also help me determine whether or not I really want to pursue this career in the long run by becoming more knowledgeable about the career as a whole. I can’t wait to actually talk to someone who is in the field, most especially a woman.

Here is a link to the show "Sports Nation" I was talking about... The Anchor on this show is the one who helped me to decide to become a sports anchor.
